The entrance to the Village from the south is quite dramatic. From Carlton the road crosses the flood plain of the River Great Ouse alongside the ancient foot causeway and then twists across the six arches of the old narrow bridge as it has done for the past nine centuries.
Beyond, the river, Harrold nestles in the trees with its church spire dominating. Over the bridge, the road immediately to the left leads to St Peter’s Church and the modern riverside homes of Hall Close, formerly the site of Harrold Hall. From here the Wellocks footpath leads to The Green, but just before that, and through a gate, is the Lower Green. This is common land which leads to the attractive river bank and mill race
